Any job in the entire world is so different then what I have planned to do with my life. Any job in the entire world for me would be to photograph the world and all the people in it. I simply love photography. It is a creative outlet, a challenge, and a relaxing fun thing to do all at once. As many people know I am in the process of building my photography company, and loving 99% of that endeavor. If I could do this full time I would without even a second thought on the matter. The only other thing I would love more would be to stay at home with my boys. They are getting older now, but I would love to be the room mom, scout mom, fundraising extraordinaire. Another job I could love is being a doula. I have attended 3 births and given birth twice, and all of these were among the most amazing things I have ever been able to witness. I would attend births for a living if I could. Now you ask, what do you plan to do with your life, my hope is to become a marriage and family therapist, but that doesn't seem likely at this point in my life. I finished school and have the ability to make this hope come true, but not the financial means with the economy the way it is currently. So for now, I stay in a job that is good to me and pays the bills most of the time. Someday I will achieve my goals, I just don't know when that will be.

Day 8 - Satisfaction

The moment I have been most satisfied with in my life...is really hard to pinpoint. I am satisfied with so many things in my life I don't know if I could say one specific thing sticks out more then the rest. I was so happy and satisfied the day Ian and I got married. I thought everything was perfect, and then I found out I was pregnant with Patrick, which was less satisfying then the day I gave birth to Patrick. I thought life was wonderful, perfect and that I was totally satisfied that day, then 2 years later I found out I was going to have Reilly, which was still not as satisfying as the day I was able to hold Reilly in my arms and watch Patrick hold his little brother. We bought a house, I graduated with my master's degree, Patrick started kindergarten. All of these days were greatly satisfying to me. I think that my marriage and the birth of my children are probably the MOST satisfying of all, but life in general has been greatly satisfying to me.

Day 7- My favorite Childhood Toys

I had a few toys that I still have to this day and would have to say that those few are probably my favorite. I have my teddy bear Daewoo, koala Deakor, and racoon Rocky. I was a stuffed animal kind of girl, I would say I had hundreds of them. I also had my cabbage patch doll (bridget if I remember right) that I loved. Aside from that I remember enjoying my light bright and easy bake oven (both of which I still have), a meagerie of board games, my Nintendo, Atari, and who could forget the good ol swing set. Does a swing set count as a toy? We always had the coolest biggest swing set that my Dad built. My favorite thing was always our family Easter Egg Huntand one egg would be hidden at the top of the swing set for me. I loved climbing to the very top and getting that egg, I was the only kid that could do it. I think that sums up the majority of my favorite toys.

Day 6 - Your zodiac sign

Does my zodiac sign fit me? Well lets see, here is what I have found a s a description of people born under the sign of Gemini:

Gemini in a Nutshell:

Gemini people are many sided, quick both in the mind and physically. They are brimming with energy and vitality, they are clever with words. They are intelligent and very adaptable to every situation and every person. Gemini are curious and always want to know what's going on in the world around them. They are not one to sit back and watch the world go by, they want to be involved. This can sometimes make Gemini nosy, they do not mind their own business! This is because they really enjoy communicating, more so then most other astrology signs, they are the ultimate social butterfly. Gemini can talk and talk, but they have interesting things to say, their talk is not mindless babble. They have interesting opinions and thoughts on things and are not afraid to speak their mind. They are always in the know and are the one to see for the latest juicy gossip. Lacking perseverance, Gemini easily goes off topic to explore another thought or idea. Gemini are superficial, they will form opinions on matter without diving into them and exploring them fully. This can lead them into thinking they know everything, which they usually do but their mind is too busy to be concerned with fine details. Routine and boredom are Gemini's biggest fears. Gemini would rather be naive then know the depressing truth, they do not want anything putting a damper on their freedom or positive energy.

Now some of this is spot on for me and other parts I don't feel fit me at all. I do feel that I am an intelligent person that is fairly adaptable to situations and very adaptable to people. I love being around people, especially new people. I hate just sitting and watching life happen, I have to be active and involved in everything I am a part of. I feel I went into the profession of Marriage and family therapy specifically because people interest me and I love communicating with people and teaching people how to communicate effectively. This is also part of why I enjoy my work in special education as well. I think I am a good conversationalist, and I think most of my friends and family would agree with this. I know I go off topic and have very random trains of thought sometimes. On the downside, I know I am nosy (always have been) and I can't stand being bored (moved jobs a few times because of this).

The parts I disagree with are that I feel like I do look past the superficial and really get to know people and information, this is something I really enjoy. I think that I often linger on the fine details rather then brush over them. And I hate to be naive and would always rather know the truth.

I think overall I fit more then I don't. I've always been proud to be a Gemini, we are a fun group to be around.

Day 5 - My favorite Comfort foods and why

I have so many of these, mostly because I love food, but what is better then a home cooked meal. So here goes the list:

From my mom:
Macaroni and Cheese (hers is the absolute best I have ever had!)
Meatloaf and mashed potatoes (her recipe is the only meatloaf I will eat)
Red Pork chops and Rice (something about this is just the best thing in the world)

From Grandma and Papa:
Dungenous crab (what is not good about this)
Fried chicken (Papa is form the south and learned how to fry a mean grilled chicken)

From Ian:
Popcorn Cow (Reminds me of his mom and it is just plain tasty)
Fried chicken (different then Papa's but oh so delicious)
BBQ chicken (He is magical with the grill, and his sauce is to die for)
Beef Stroganoff (He makes it from scratch and I LOVE it)

All of these foods just remind me of the people that make them and how much I love them, thus making each and every one a comforting meal for me. I was not raised in any religion, nor do I practice any religion at this point in my life. Instead I was brought up with a set of moral standards that taught me how to be a "good person". The reality is that these are very Christian based rules, as both of my parents were brought up in the church. I always seem to get myself in trouble when it comes to this topic, but after much contemplation and thought where I stand on the subject is this: I believe there is always something greater then myself out there, even if it is simply the world we live in. I believe that everything we do has an impact on someone or something else, so I should try to live my life the best way I know how, and I should raise my children to do the same. I would like to think that if there is an almighty being waiting at the gates of heaven/valhalla/nirvana/etc. to let people in then they will be able to look at what I have done in my life and how I have lived and cared for others when they pass judgment on me. If that almighty being cannot look past my questioning beliefs and see the good that I have done then I would not want to spend eternity with that being, I would rather fade into non existence. I realize that my views are not accepted by many, and I know that they are "controversial", but it is what it is. I accept all beliefs as valid, and have much respect for the faithful, it just isn't what works for me. I feel like I don't really have that many pet peeves, but then I really think about it and realize thatI have a lot of them.

#1 - Mean People. Like the people who know they are being mean and still do it anyway. I try my best everyday to smile and be fairly peaceful and I just don't understand this at all.

#2 - People who ask a lot of stupid questions. Now I realize I have done this myself, but what I am talking about is when I am sitting in class and a person raises their hand repeatedly to ask something that was just answered. Or better yet, continue asking it over and over like the response is somehow going to change if they ask enough times. If you are too dumb to grasp the concepts why are you in the class?!?!

#3 - Obnoxious neighbors. My neighborhood is filled with them right now. We have the fence neighbors that have made a wall of cars down our driveway, hte domestic violence neighbors who we have to call the cops on all the time, the parking monitors across the street, and of course the naked chick behind my sister's house (she wanders around the yard naked at night).

#4 - Dirty dishes. There is nothing good about dishes, I hate doing them, but I hate seeing them sit there in the sink even more. I hate how angry they make me everytime I have to do them. If I could wish for one type of house keeping to be done that would be it.

#5 - Running Late. I hate running late, it drives me crazy and stresses me to no end. I do my best, but I swear I am late more often then I am on time. Still working on a solution to that.

Day 2 - Where I'd like to be in 10 years

Still working on getting this done on time, what can you do? In 10 years? This is a remarkably hard question for me. Ideally I would love to be a therapist/photographer. I finished my degree in Marriage and Family Therapy 2 years ago and still have not been able to find a job due to the recession we are in. I love the work that I was doing during school and can't imagine myself doing many other things. The one other thing I can see myself doing is being a full time photographer, but this is a bit of a pipe dream. Another one of those difficult things to do in a slow economy, and in a very saturated market place. Who knows, maybe I will go back to school and work on my doctorate, or a master's in something completely different. No plans are ever written in stone for me. All I know is that in 10 years I will be the mother of a very soon to be 16 year old boy, and that is a very scary thought!!

Day 1 - My Relationship

Day 1 seems to be a few days later then expected, but still here. My relationship? Is a pretty good one. I have been married to the love of my life for almost 7 years now. We have been together for 13 years, and we have been friends for about 18 years. Ian and I are good and bad for each other all at the same time. I always laugh when I really take a look at us and see what opposites we are. We disagree on politics, color palettes, and where things belong. But when all is said and done we agree on the major things in life; how to raise our children, how to treat other people, and how to treat each other. We met in Jr. high water polo and according to him I was the scary big girl that could kick all the incoming freshman boy's butts. While it is probably true that I could kick butt, I was no where near as big as he seems to remember, although I did have an inch or two on him. I can't say that we had an instant friendship because that would not be true, but it did develop over time. By our senior year in high school we were more then acquaintances, but nothing like best friends. I guess you could say that love blossomed after high school once Ian grew a few inches and put on a little bit of weight. We started hanging out on a regular basis and by a yea rout of high school were a couple. We have been Ian and Bri ever since. We have been through so much together and honestly I can't imagine going on life's journey with anyone else. He can drive me crazy some days, but overall I think we are the best match for one another. I push him to do things he would never even think about without me, and he keeps me from going into an emotional upheaval every other day. I have recently been feeling the need to simply type or write and just can't get it together. So my cousin inspired me to do my own 30 day challenge ( I did a very poor job of this on facebook a while back), but I want to really try and stick with this one. My grandparents were in town (I don't think they have ever been in town for mother's day), so we got to have a little extra celebration. Ian made breakfast in the morning and let me stay in bed a little longer. Even though I was already awake, it was nice to just enjoy the warmth of the bed that I never get to. Breakfast was awesome and then we thought about what to do from there. We were not expected at my mom's house until the afternoon. We decided to go for a hike. It is something we had not really done with the boys ever before, but was an awesome experience. Ian and I decided that we would like to start hiking at least once a month with them. There was no fast pace, and we stopped to look at a lot of rocks, plants and bugs, but it was a really great morning. We traveled to my parent's house where we shared a great dinner with the family and had a wonderful time just hanging out and having fun. It was really nice to have my grandparents there to celebrate with us, I wish they could have stayed longer.

I started this blog in an effort to stay more up to date on the happenings of our life, but as usual time got away from me and I am once again behind. So much has been happening, and so little all at the same time. We have been busy, but nothing out of the unusual, unless you count preparing for kindergarten next year! That's right I said kindergarten, Patrick will be 5 this September and the time has come for Kindergarten registration. We are having some trouble with this though. Not your typical parental stress of the first child going off to their first big kid school, no, we are having school trouble. Our home school is in what they call program improvement. This means that the school is not performing well in their end of year testing. As a matter of fact our home school is an extremelly low perfoming school (none of their test scores were above the 50th percentile in ANY subject, some were even as low as the 30th percentile). Because of this the district has to offer all parents the option of changing schools. Obviously we were goign to take this option. We were given two choices, and then one was promptly taken away from us (which we were very unhappy about). Long story short we have had to file choice paperwork and will be moving Patrick to a different school. We have two schools in mind, we went to visit one last Thursday and were pleasantly surprised by the school and the principal. The principal took all of the incoming kinder parents ona tour of the school. he presented us with materials showing what they would be learning in the upcoming year, showed us all of the classrooms, the cafeteria and the library. He was very open to questions and comments and gave all of us the feeling that he is open and loves to interact with his parents. I think this would be a really great option for Patrick. We still have one more school to tour later in the month, I hope it is at least as nice as the one we visited last week. It is proving to be a much more stressful experience then I anticipated, but I hope that we wind up making the right choice for him. Other than kindergarten stress things have been moving along the same as always. Busy days and weekends, but nothing too eventful. Below are some pictures from around the house and our weekend fieldtrip to a kids craft festival thing. The Craft fest was down at liberty station over the weekend. It is nice to see the old NTC being used for something while still being preserved, it is an amazing site. We may make treks down there more often. I guess that is typical for an almost two year old, but I don't have to like it any better. Yesterday evening he was trying to climb onto one of my sister's dining room chairs (which are barstool height) and it toppled over on top of him. He of course started to scream (which leads to breath holding and turning blue) when we realized there was blood coming from his eye (or so we thought at the time). It turned out to be a cut along the crease of his eye but still scary none the less. We got him to breath again and then picked him up to look at the cut which was swelling up quite nicely. We decided a trip to urgent care was needed. In his short life we have had to make 3 trips to urgent care, 2 of which have been caused by Kelly's house. One time was the guinea pig biting his finger (that was an interesting visit) and the second was this one. We think we may have to ban autie's house for a little while (Just kidding Kelly). Really we can't blame anyone but our adventerous little stinker. He wants to be a big boy so much, but we just aren't there yet. Anyway, in the mean time I hope you all enjoy the pictures of his most recent trauma. The first is while we were sitting in urgent care and the second is from today.
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; This is always my favorite time to go to the park. If you haven't been, you really should be, there is nothing in the world like it; butterflies everywhere, landing on people, the ground, plants, walls, everything! They come in all different colors and sizes. I just love it. I am pretty sure that the kids do not like it nearly as much as I do, luckily I have avery understanding husband that takes the kids when they are done (secretly I am pretty sure he is too) and lets me continue to enjoy the butterflies as long as I would like. This gives me the opportunity to take as many pictures as I please. Yes, I am one of those people that has my "fancy" camera there and is taking a million pictures of the same bug over and over, but I think you will see that my patience and persistence have paid off. And I am sorry that I annoy all of you without the fancy camera, but I get there early before the long lines, get my pictures and leave the rest of you alone for the rest of the day. As for the boys, I think they had a great time there. We rode the new tram, walked around for a little while, got some lunch, walked a bit more, and then came home for naptime. I think they just had a good time running around most of the day. Below are soem of my better butterfly pics and some cute pictures of the boys.

I had to take some blackmail pictures this year. I found this wonderful basket and it is the perfect size for young kids to sit in, I couldn't resist. I tossed in some easter grass and plastic eggs, and here are my cuties in their easter pictures. We had such a wonderful week last week. With me having some vacation time and Patrick not having school we had the opportunity to just relax and enjoy the week (for the most part anyway). We took a trip to the zoo (somehow I actually forgot my camera that day!!) with our cousins that we had not seen in years which was really nice. We fit in a visit with Abby and the twins which was super fun for the boys. We got to have Abby over to our house and play all Friday afternoon. We had an Easter egg hunt at Grandma's house, met Uncle Richard's girlfriend and Auntie Meghan's boyfriend (both of whom were extremelly nice people). We even got a visit from the Easter Bunny himself. He left baskets for the boys and eggs all over the yard. All in all it was a great week. Makes me wonder why I am thinking about leaving the school district. Hope you enjoy these couple pictures, and I will post more from Easter soon.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; We moved my baby into a "big boy" bed. I know, he can't be that old can he?! Well apparently he is cause he is in there sleeping just fine, same as he did at nap time today. Brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it. People always told me they would grow up quickly, but I just never imagined it would be this fast. He just doesn't seem old enough to be out of his crib, and yet I know he was ready weeks ago. When we first showed him his crib was gone and the bed was in it's place he threw himself on the bed and started crying (he has had a very dramatic day today). But after assuring him that this was his bed he finally sat on it and seemed to really like it so we put him down for nap time in it this afternoon. He seemed a bit confused after his nap today because he was just able to walk out of bed and through his door. He came out of his room, looked around like he shouldn't be there and walked back in to his room. He only came back out when we greeted him and asked how he slept. He just looked at us and said, "OH". Too cute. Anyway the pics below are some of Reilly checking out his "big boy" bed, you may recognize the bed from Patrick's "big boy" bed pictures, that is because it is the same toddler bed ( I love when things hold up well). Our goal has been to try and catch up after all of the rain. Our yard was beginning to look a bit like a jungle. We added a few new flowers and trimmed a few old ones and now the yard is looking quite nice. The boys seem to think yard work is extra fun, they love being outside with Dad. Is it possible we can keep them thinking yardwork is wonderful? Somehow I doubt that, but we will take it while we can get it. Here are some pictures of the boys sharing an afternoon with dad out in the yard.

More good news

I have to say that things are beginning to scare me a little, I am not used to things going well all at once. We got word this weekend that everything from our broken computer was recovered! YAY!!! This was quite a relief for me, I was so worried that I lost all of my pictures. So that was some really good news for us. Went to my job interview today, I felt like things went pretty well, I won't know for another two weeks, but it was definetly one of my better interviews. I have another tomorrow, so we will see how that one goes. As for the boys, they are funny as ever. The picture I am including is from this weekend. I was so afraid of having siblings that didn't get along. I am sure it will get worse as they get older, but for now I am content with the fact that they enjoy playing together and love to sit in the big blue recliner together. I have been taking pictures of them in this chair periodically since Reilly was born, it was nice to catch them sitting in it without mom forcing them to. Only thing that could have made this moment better was if I was sitting there with them.
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; Some of you may know that I have been on the job search since last October when I graduated my master's degree program. I have been on a few interviews, but they were not the right jobs for me. This job looks a lot like something that would be perfect for me, combining what I want to do and a lot of what I currently do (which I love also). Could it be possible for me to wind up getting the best of both worlds? I guess we will have to wait and see. In the mean time, wish me luck, I hope this one pans out. As for life with the boys today it was pretty mello. I had to officiate so they got to spend the afternoon with Auntie Meghan, which they both always love. When I got home we went for a nice walk and let the boys play at the park. It is always fun to watch them play ( I know Ian would love for me to actually get on the structure and play with them more often). I am always in awe of the things they are able to do, and how they are not afraid to do it. They climb to the top of ladders that are twice as tall as they are with no fear or second thoughts about it. They love every moment of going down a slide, or being pushed in the swing. I doubt there is any time they are happier then when they are playing. I can honestly say that stopping my internship to spend more time at home has paid off in ways I could have only imagined.

March 15th - Walk at the Lake

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; I have really been trying to get out of the house and walk lately, both for my benefit and the boys. Lindo Lake has always been one of my favorite spots in the county so we spend many afternoons walking there. They have a great walking path, two parks, a new exercise area, and ducks. Who could ask for anything more?! The boys really love feeding the ducks and geese, so I try to make sure we have bread for our trips. The url for my photography page is now http://brianareynoldsphotography.blogspot.com/ makes a little more sense title wise. i learned some really great new things about blogspot which have made me want to start writing a little more about the life of my family on here as opposed to our other website. As much as I love that site they are having some ownership glitches and I don't know if they will be able to maintain the site for much longer (bummer since all of the boys info is already there). BUT the good news about this shift is that I can publish all that I want here along with some stories and I will have the ability to turn my blog right into a hardcover book if I choose to. For any of you that know me, you know that this would be a wonderful thing since I am having a horrible time keeping up with all of my scrapbooking endeavors. If nothing else this may give me the chance to keep up on what is going on in life and possibly a nice momento for my boys later in life; the world through mom's eyes (or something like that). So for now I appologize to all that are looking for my photography page, but if you click on the link above you will still find the same ol page, just a new name. For those of you looking for pictures of the boys, I promise to have some up soon, as long as my computer isn't completely dead.
